Stainless Steel Crowns
Post-Operative Instructions for Stainless Steel Crown

What to expect:
-
The gums around the tooth may be slightly tender for a day or two.
-
The bite may feel “different” at first. This usually improves as your child adjusts.
-
If local anesthesia (numbing) was used, your child’s lips, cheeks, and tongue may remain numb for a few hours.
Care at home:
-
Monitor your child until the numbness wears off to prevent accidental biting of the lips, cheeks, or tongue.
-
Soft foods are recommended until the numbness is gone. After that, your child may return to a normal diet.
-
Avoid sticky foods (like gum, taffy, or caramels), which may loosen the crown.
-
Maintain good brushing and flossing around the crown as you would for natural teeth.
Follow-up:
-
If the crown comes off, save it and contact our office promptly so it can be recemented.
-
If you notice swelling, persistent bleeding, or the bite feels very uneven after several days, please call our office.
Reminder: Stainless steel crowns are durable and meant to last until the tooth naturally falls out or until a permanent solution is provided.
