Dentures
Congratulations on receiving your new dentures! To ensure a smooth transition and proper healing, please follow these post-operative care instructions:

-
Adjusting to Your New Dentures:
-
It's normal for dentures to feel strange at first. You may experience increased salivation, minor irritation, or soreness as your mouth adjusts. This should improve over time.
-
-
Eating with Dentures:
-
Start with soft foods cut into small pieces. Chew slowly and evenly on both sides of your mouth to keep the dentures stable. As you become more comfortable, gradually introduce a wider variety of foods.
-
-
Speaking with Dentures:
-
Practice speaking by reading aloud or talking to a friend. This will help you get used to the way your dentures feel and sound.
-
-
Oral Hygiene:
-
Clean your dentures daily with a denture brush and denture cleanser. Avoid using regular toothpaste, which can be abrasive.
-
Rinse your dentures after every meal.
-
Brush your gums, tongue, and palate with a soft-bristled brush every morning before putting in your dentures to stimulate circulation and remove plaque.
-
-
Overnight Care:
-
Remove your dentures before going to bed to allow your gums to rest and to prevent oral infections.
-
Soak your dentures overnight in a denture cleaning solution or plain water to keep them moist and maintain their shape.
-
-
Handling Soreness and Irritation:
-
Minor irritation or soreness is common initially. Rinse your mouth with warm salt water (1 teaspoon of salt in 8 ounces of warm water) to reduce discomfort.
-
If sore spots persist or worsen, contact our office for an adjustment.
-
-
Regular Check-Ups:
-
Schedule follow-up appointments as recommended to ensure your dentures fit correctly and to make any necessary adjustments.
-
Regular dental visits are essential to monitor the health of your gums and any remaining natural teeth.
-
-
Using Denture Adhesives:
-
If you choose to use a denture adhesive, follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully.
-
Clean any adhesive residue from your dentures and gums daily.
-
-
Handling and Storage:
-
Handle your dentures carefully to avoid dropping and damaging them.
-
Store them in a denture case filled with water or a denture-soaking solution when not in use.
-
-

If you experience persistent discomfort, severe pain, significant changes in fit, or any unusual symptoms, please contact our office immediately for an evaluation.
